Nevada State University announces the opening of their new school psychology graduate program. This three-year education specialist program aims to address the shortage of school psychologists across the state. Applications will be accepted until January 16, with the program commencing in fall 2024.

President DeRionne Pollard expressed the university’s commitment to meeting the demand for school psychologists and mental health professionals in PreK-12 schools. The program offers real-world experience and training through a partnership with the Clark County School District.

In 2019, the Clark County School District had a ratio of one school psychologist for every 2,200 students, while the Nevada State Board of Education recommends one for every 500 students. To address this shortage, Nevada State University has launched the ARTERY Pipeline Framework, which allows students at any level of education to enter the program.

Katherine Dockweiler, assistant professor of school psychology, stated her pride in contributing to the reversal of the increasing mental health struggles among youth through the new program at Nevada State University.
