Introducing the Coordinated Educational and Wellness Services (CEWS) center at George Mason University’s School of Education. This new center, housed within the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), is dedicated to providing specialized mental health, psychological, and educational services for children, adolescents, and teens between the ages of 5 and 18. The goal is to enhance the emotional, behavioral, and academic functioning of students in primary and secondary schools.

Led by Nicole Beadles, associate professor in Mason’s School Psychology program, the center aims to address the needs of school-age children and their educational concerns. Previously, psychoeducational testing was provided through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS). However, the CEWS center focuses specifically on children and teenagers, offering comprehensive assessment services (CAS) starting from September.

The center serves as a community resource for families dealing with academic, emotional, or behavioral challenges that affect their child’s performance in school and other areas. The CAS program provides evaluations to assist parents in addressing specific areas of concern such as anxiety, mood disorders, social interaction challenges, behavioral difficulties, learning and attentional issues, ADHD, and autism. These evaluations involve interviews, questionnaires, record reviews, and direct testing of the child.

Under the guidance of licensed clinical and school psychologists affiliated with the university, graduate students in Mason’s School Psychology Program conduct the testing. This ensures that parents receive the benefit of two professional perspectives on their child’s assessment. The center’s mission is to provide accurate and useful information that can truly make a difference in the lives of children.

Nicole Beadles has actively reached out to community organizations and school psychology leaders in Northern Virginia, including Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun, Arlington, Alexandria, and Manassas, to spread awareness about the center and its services.

If you are a parent seeking assistance for your child’s academic, emotional, or behavioral difficulties, the CEWS center is here to support you. No referral is necessary and you can contact the center directly to schedule an appointment. Make a positive impact on your child’s life and take advantage of this much-needed resource for parents, families, and youth in the community.
