    Amy Detjen, a school psychologist with Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) for 20 years, has been honored as the 2023 School Psychologist of the Year by the Kentucky Association for Psychology in the Schools (KAPS). Detjen, a Lexington native and graduate of the University of Kentucky, has dedicated her career to serving preschool and elementary grades.

    Throughout her years of service, Detjen has conducted numerous evaluations, offered direct support to students, led family support groups, delivered parent trainings, and developed valuable resources such as handbooks and a website for families. She attributes her growth as a professional to the stories shared by parents of children with disabilities, stating that they have had a profound impact on her.

    Detjen’s commitment to excellence extends beyond her work at Cassidy Elementary. She also provides coaching and consultation to her colleagues district-wide, sharing best practices for autism evaluation.
