Jana Lambert, a school psychologist with the Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District for 21 years, has recently been named School Psychologist of the Year. She received this prestigious award from the New York Association of School Psychologists (NYASP) Chapter F and was selected among 15 chapter winners across the state to receive the statewide Frank Plumeau School Psychologist of the Year award. Lambert will be recognized at the NYASP annual conference in Saratoga in November.
During her tenure at Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School, Lambert has made a significant impact on the district, which led to her nomination by the school’s principal, Melanie Welch. Lambert expressed her surprise and gratitude for the nomination, stating that she did not expect to receive this recognition.
Welch praised Lambert’s dedication to the district in her nomination letter, emphasizing her contributions in building strong relationships between families and schools, collaborating with community agencies to improve academic and social outcomes for students.
Lambert’s achievements extend beyond being named School Psychologist of the Year. She was part of the team that accepted the “What’s Great in Our State” award from the New York State Office of Mental Health, recognizing the district’s efforts in mental health and social-emotional learning.
In her role as a school psychologist, Lambert handles a range of responsibilities, including conducting assessments to determine learning styles and disabilities, collaborating with teachers and outside agencies to address students’ needs, providing counseling to both special and general education students, and spearheading various initiatives such as the Spirit Team, character education program, and anti-bullying Unity Day celebration.
Jana Lambert’s unwavering commitment to the field of school psychology and her dedication to improving the lives of students make her a deserving recipient of the School Psychologist of the Year award.
