Dr. Victor Villarreal has been named the Texas Association of School Psychologists’ (TASP) September Shining School Psychology Trainer, a testament to his unwavering dedication to the field. Dr. Villarreal has distinguished himself through his extensive experience, spanning over 11 years as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) and a Licensed Psychologist (LP), working in both public schools and mental health clinics. His journey began at Texas A&M University, where he completed his school psychology training, including an internship with Dallas Independent School District and a postdoctoral position at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Currently, Dr. Villarreal enriches the academic and practical landscapes as a professor in the MA and PhD programs in School Psychology at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Along with directing the PhD program and the UTSA Psychological Assessment and Consultation Center, he focuses his research on improved methods for identifying students needing support and meta-science advancements in school psychology. His belief in the transformative role of public schools in mental health promotion inspires his students to consider the far-reaching impacts of their work.
