The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) African Diaspora subcommittee, as part of its Multicultural Affairs Committee, has initiated the NASP Exposure Project. The goal of this project is to expose high school students and undergraduates, especially those from diverse backgrounds, to school psychology as a career. This grassroots effort aims to attract students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds into school psychology graduate programs, reducing the shortages of qualified school psychologists.

This project provides an opportunity for school psychologists to give back to the community and help address the shortage of school psychologists.

What is NASP Exposure Project, and how does it work?

NASP Exposure Project (NASPEP) is an initiative to expose high school students and undergraduates to school psychology as a profession. Graduate students, faculty members, or practitioners of school psychology can participate in this project by presenting to high school students and undergraduates in their area. These materials for presentations, prepared by NASP experts, are adaptable and available via Dropbox. This project provides an opportunity for school psychologists to give back to the community and help address the shortage of school psychologists.

Why is the NASP Exposure Project necessary?

The NASP Exposure Project is important because school psychology is a growing career that requires culturally and linguistically diverse individuals. As an organization, NASP is dedicated to increasing the diversity and inclusion of the school psychology workforce. Currently, the workforce does not meet the needs of our diverse student populations. By participating in this project, we can help increase the number of culturally and linguistically diverse students who enter school psychology programs.

How does the NASP Exposure Project benefit students?

By exposing high school students and undergraduates to school psychology as a career, students will get a glimpse into the fascinating world of school psychology. This project allows students to ask questions about the field and explore potential career paths. Students who might not have considered school psychology can learn about the exciting opportunities in this field and the positive impact they can have on students’ lives.

What should you know if you want to get involved in the NASP Exposure Project?

If you are a school psychology graduate student, faculty member, or practitioner, you can participate in the project.
