- UCF faculty have initiated Project STAR in response to school-based mental health provider shortages, funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant.
- Over 200 graduate students will be placed in high-need schools over the five years of the project, receiving evidence-based training in various school-related issues such as trauma and crisis intervention, school safety, and cultural diversity.
- The primary aim is to increase the number of counseling providers in high-need schools and enhance diversity among mental health service providers with evidence-based training and inclusive pedagogy.
- Zeligman’s team will measure various factors of the school climate to track progress, while graduate students document their growth by maintaining a log of services provided during practical and internship experiences.
- UCF’s diverse student body makes it well-positioned to represent and serve the students within these communities.
