  • Austin Independent School District (AISD) has achieved significant progress in completing initial evaluations on time, with 98% of evaluations and eligibility determinations for the 2022-23 school year completed as of October 31.
  • This accomplishment is partially due to an agreement between AISD and the Texas Education Agency (TEA), which includes a TEA-appointed monitor to attend board meetings, Lone Star Governance training for the board and superintendent, meeting student outcome goals, and dedicating 50% of future board meeting time to discussing special education.
  • AISD has outlined further goals to improve its special education department, such as increasing professional development opportunities and improving data management and reporting systems.
  • The district is also forming a Special Education Family Advisory Committee with applications being accepted until January 10.
  • The board of trustees will receive an update on the district’s progress on special education during a regular board meeting on January 25.
