The District of Columbia Public School (DCPS) system is offering a paid internship program for the school year 2025-2026, designed specifically for school psychology graduate students that have completed their practicum. This program not only provides a competitive salary of $30,000 but also offers invaluable real-world experience to help you transition into a full-time role as a school psychologist at DCPS.

As an intern at DCPS, you’ll have a range of responsibilities and opportunities to develop your skills:

  • Psychological Assessments: Participate in training and receive supervision for selecting, administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological assessments that evaluate intellectual capacity, social-emotional/behavioral wellness, academic performance, and adaptive skills.
  • Report Writing and Communication: Acquire experience in report writing and effectively communicating assessment outcomes to families and members of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
  • Counseling Services: Engage in training and supervision for delivering short-term counseling services within a school setting.
  • Behavior Assessments and Plans: Learn to conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and create Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) under guidance.
  • Tier I Interventions: Assist in the development and implementation of tier I interventions, including Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL).
  • Meetings and Consultations: Attend various school meetings such as Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and IEP meetings, along with department meetings. Offer consultation and training to school staff and families concerning student psychological needs.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with administrative team members and other school staff regarding students’ mental health requirements and available services.
