Michigan State Police and School Psychology Professor Team Up for School Safety

Michigan State Police and Professor Carlson from Michigan State University have teamed up to develop six courses designed to promote school safety and mental health.
Funding for this project was obtained through grants from the U.S. Department of Justice and Bureau of Justice Assistance.
These courses focus on topics such as fostering a safe and supportive school climate, collaborative data-based problem-solving, early identification of mental health challenges, effective mental health interventions and care coordination, working with diverse populations, and nurturing self-care and wellness.
The modules were crafted by Carlson and his team in collaboration with Beth Beattie, a department analyst at MSP.

This pioneering initiative highlights the importance of states taking ownership of the issue by collaborating with key stakeholders in order to combat school violence effectively.
