CANYON, Texas — The school psychology graduate program at West Texas A&M University (WT) has achieved full accreditation from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), marking its commitment to high-quality training and adherence to national standards of practice.

According to NASP, school psychologists play a crucial role in helping children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. Their work involves collaborating with educators, parents, and other professionals to create safe, supportive learning environments that strengthen ties between home, school, and the broader community.

WT’s school psychology program—launched [DATE]—stands out for its high level of student-faculty interaction and robust support system. The program fosters real-world training by building relationships with local schools, enabling students to apply research-based practices to support children, families, and educational institutions effectively.

The program is structured to meet the requirements for both the Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP), the credential necessary for practice in Texas, and the Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) credential. Graduates are therefore prepared to work in educational settings across most states. To accommodate working students, classes are conveniently offered during evenings and weekends.

Addressing regional needs remains a key focus of WT’s long-term strategic plan, which is supported by the historic One West comprehensive fundraising campaign. Since its public launch in September 2021, the campaign has exceeded its initial $125 million goal within 18 months and is now working toward a $175 million goal by 2025. To date, it has raised over $160 million.
